“All You Need Is Pag-Ibig” director Antoinette Jadaone on Wednesday expressed her dismay that her film is being pulled out of cinemas, a mere five days since it opened on December 25.
On her Twitter account, Jadaone, who also helmed the cult hit “That Thing Called Tadhana,” claimed: “So they’re pulling out [All You Need Is Pag-Ibig] in theaters too. Sad.”
The romantic comedy, produced by Star Cinema, stars Kris Aquino, Derek Ramsay, Ian Veneracion, Jodi Sta. Maria, Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, and Pokwang.
The film has generally received positive feedback from Filipinos online, and is part of the top five earners of the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), according to the latest box office results.
This is not the first time a director of an MMFF entry has lambasted cinemas for pulling out movies that had poor sales. Last Monday, “Nilalang” director Pedring Lopez described the alleged pullout as “unfair.”
“Nung first day, nung hapon pa lang, some of the cinemas were pulling out the movie na. ‘Yung iba, dalawa lang ang screening namin or tatlo lang instead na lima. It’s sad na ganun ang ginawa sa amin,” he said.
He added: “It’s very sad na ‘yung state ng Philippine cinema is like this. Parang walang protection ‘yung mismong mga filmmakers sa atin. Hirap na nga tayo na ang kalaban natin Hollywood. Pati ba naman doon sa two weeks na festival, hirap na hirap pa rin tayo?”
